So, you want to play guitar?

Yes, I want to play guitar!

But what does that mean? Our outlet for guitar is a dynamic thing. My love of the guitar doesn’t change, but my direction changes often. We need a goal to drive to, otherwise it’s difficult to learn and practice. You need to see a payoff.

Do you need an audience? Do you want to just truly play for yourself. Jam along with recordings and enjoy it for what it is. Or play with people with the same goal, of enjoying it for the process.

If you want to ‘get out there’… solo or with a group? Both have unique responsibilities. And playing out involves a lot more than just learning the music.

Original or covers?

Multiple outlets. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If you have music you need to get out, don’t force it into your only outlet.

Everything does not have to take over the world.

Don’t be afraid to switch, it all pays forward. Original songs help you play covers, covers help you write originals. Playing solo helps you do the work for a group, playing with a group helps you do the work for playing solo.

There’s no right or wrong. Just right or wrong for you.
